Imphal, May 20 2021:
The Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF) has urged the State Government to probe the rapid spread of Coronavirus in the State by constituting a dedicated expert committee.
In a statement, the federation stated that probing the nature of Coronavirus spread in the second wave is imperative to ascertain if there are lapses in the Government preventive measures so as to avoid another wave hitting the State.
Saying that collective effort is required to defeat the Covid pandemic which has claimed over 600 lives in the State alone, he appealed all to stop criticising one another from a political or religious point of view.
Pointing out the worst hit by the pandemic are daily wagers and poor, especially farmers, the statement urged the Government to examine whether measures rolled out to save the lives of the poor are effective.
The MSF also urged the Government to formulate a policy to ensure the benefit reaches the poor directly during these trying times.
Expressing suspicion that certain hospitals and clinics are charging an inappropriate price for Covid treatments, the federation urged all to refrain from raising treatment fees by taking advantage of the Covid situation.
The MSF further urged the Government to take up measures to ensure the shortage of food, medical equipment and medicines don't crop up in Government hospitals, Covid Care Centres, Home Isolation Centres etc and ramp up Covid vaccination drive to arrest the spread of Coronavirus.
MSF also urged the people of Manipur to obey the SOPs for COVID-19, get vaccinated and abstain from showing prejudice against Covid patients.
