Imphal, May 19 2025:
Noting that many students leave the state in pursuance of engineering courses outside every year draining significant resources and finances, Manipur Technical University (MTU) registrar Ramananda Nongmeikapam has appealed to parents of students pursuing higher studies to enable the MTU shoulder responsibility in building career of their wards.
The registrar made the appeal during the one day media sensitisation programme on MTU jointly organised by MTU and All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) at Manipur Press Club, here, on Monday.
As chief guest of the inaugural session, Ramananda said MTU is the only technical university of Manipur established in 2016 .

It offers five B Tech courses namely civil, mechanical, computer science, electrical and electronics and communication engineering.
The university also offers management, humanities and social science and basic science courses and currently has eight departments.
However, there are many people in the state unaware of MTU and engineering courses offered by the university, he said.
According to Ramananda, the state has a large pool of students who want to pursue career in engineering with many studying engineering courses in private institutions in other states after failure to get government selection.
As such, there has been consistent draining of state's financial resources to other states, consequently impacting the per capita income of the already economically weak state.
This problem could be solved at least to certain extent if students study engineering courses at the MTU rather than pursuing career at private engineering institutions outside, he said adding that the sensitisation programme has been organised with the main objective of creating mass awareness on MTU and courses offered by the university.
While claiming that all the faculty members of MTU are well-qualified and capable of guiding the students in realising their goals, the MTU registrar appealed to parents of students to have faith in the university in shaping careers of the students and make them successful in life.
He also said that studying at MTU will significantly cut expenditure of students, eventually reducing the economic burden of families of the students.
In his speech, AMWJU president Asem Bhakta said the programme aims to enlighten the media persons on readiness of MTU and AMWJU to offer help as and when required.
Editors Guild Manipur (EGM) president Khogendra Khomdram also attended the session as guest of honour.
In the technical session of the programme, MTU registrar Ramananda, civil engineering department head K Anil Sharma, computer science and engineering head Dr H Saratchandra Sharma, electrical engineering head L Ranjita Devi, mechanical engineering head Dr Kh Gopal Krishna, basic sciences head Dr N Swapana, management head Dr L Victoria Devi and humanities and Social Science department head Dr N Sanatombi Devi spoke as resource persons.
They deliberated on key issues facing the university like development of permanent campus, opening of language lab, vacancy for ST seats, inconveniences faced by management studies department, opening of PhD courses and NAAC assessment.
The technical session was followed by an interaction between resource persons and media fraternity.
