Agri Dept gears up for fertilizer procurement

Although Kharif season is still a couple of months away, Agriculture Department has already initiated due procedures to ensure adequate availability of Urea to farmers at the subsidized rate during the Kharif season.
According to an official source, just like in the previous year when Urea, controlled by Agriculture Department was made available to farmers without any problem, the department has initiated necessary measures to ensure availability of Urea to farmers in sufficient quantity this Kharif season too.
At present, there are 2500 metric tonnes of Urea in the department's storehouse.
The department has also initiated due procedures to procure 15,000 metric tonnes of Urea from Bramahputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited located at Namrup, Assam.
The department would soon submit a proposal to the Finance Department for releasing the amount required for procuring 15,000 metric tonnes of Urea.
Agriculture Department has been planning to start transshipping the 15,000 metric tonnes of Urea starting from the month of April, added the official source.
