Imphal, December 18 2016:
Reviewing the tense situation after the creation of new seven districts, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh today appealed to all sections of people in Manipur to maintain peace, amity and communal harmony in the State at all cost.
He stated that the Government of Manipur created the new districts purely for administrative convenience in view of the difficulties faced by people living in remote areas while travelling to respective district headquarters.
The State Cabinet adopted the decision of creating the seven new districts in the interest of the people living in remote areas and far off places away from the district Headquarters.
Creation of the new districts should not be interpreted as giving away any piece of the State's territory to any particular community.
To bring uniform development across the hills and valley of the State and streamline administration were the primary objectives of the Government.
Condemning the series of incidence of violence after the creation of new districts, the Chief Minister urged the people to exercise calm in "this hour of crisis" .
The Chief Minister cautioned the anti-social elements which are hell bent on disturbing the atmosphere of peace, communal harmony and brotherhood in the State.
