Imphal, November 18 2017:
Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren has stated he will face any adversary that threatens the unity of Manipur and its territorial boundary, while declaring he will lead from the front as a CM and even sacrifice his life to protect the territorial integrity of the State.
The CM was speaking as the chief guest at the inaugural function of Transfer of fund through DBT and beneficiary training programme", which was organised by the Department of Sericulture at Sangaipat Sericulture Complex.
He said that it is not possible to integrate the Naga-inhabited areas at the cost of breaking up Manipur and neither the CM's chair nor party alliance matters as much as the unity and territory of the state for which his Government stands firm.
Only the person responsible for it would know a poisonous snake lies beneath a red carpet, the CM lambasted while referring to a statement made by an Opposition member.
He added it has been already agreed that pretension and sit-in protests will not offer a solution to the Naga problem.
N Biren pointed out that it is not only the CM and Ministers but also the people who love Manipur as a Manipuri and everybody will come together to save the territory of the State.
He assured that his Government will work according to the wishes of the people.
He requested people not to mock at his Government's endeavours to reclaim the love lost between the valley and the hills and that it has been only recently that the new Government has started working in this area so it would be unwise to start giving judgments so early.
It takes times and effort, he said and requested people to be patient.
Meanwhile, as part of the inaugural function, N Biren claimed, in Manipur, there are a number of people who want to work.
If there is anybody who wants to be self-employed, the Government has funds and taken up initiatives for them to help increase their profits and investments.
With the help of direct benefit transfer (DBT), the CM said, the accounts of beneficiaries will be automatically credited and there is no chance for funds getting swindled midway.
He said he is surprised that there was until recently a system of issuing cheques though Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made it possible way back in 2015 for beneficiaries to get funds directly in their accounts through DBT.
Many government-sponsored schemes had failed in the past because of inconveniences in getting the benefits that further discourage the potential beneficiaries from seeking the assistance, the CM said.
Nevertheless, both in the valley and the hills, sericulture will provide benefits to many people, who will get the assistance after completing their work and it will also help in reducing unemployment, he said and called for the officials in the Department of Sericulture to work honestly for development in the state.
N Biren expressed that the announcement of many government-sponsored schemes is the indication of a clean government and that his government will be transparent in offering schemes and projects.
He continued slamming the Opposition that his government is honest in making efforts to bring the people of the valley and the hills closer and that he does not go to the hills like in a picnic that the previous government used to do.
The CM blamed the previous government was clandestine in providing schemes and projects and those were also done for the sake of contracts only and his government will never be like them.
In the same breath, he said he will not lose the confidence of the people and will work along with the people.
Later in the function, MLA Awangbow Newmai, who attended as the president, said it is unfortunate that many people cannot appreciate the initiatives taken up by N Biren.
He asked those of them should stop fuelling unrest in the state.
Yaiskul MLA Thokchom Satyabrata and Imphal East Zilla Parishad Adhyaksha P Bimola also took part in the function as guests of honour.
