Imphal, October 18 2019: A number of encroachers have been evicted today from public area along Wahengbam Leikai road today.

The eviction drive was carried out under the supervision of Imphal West SP (Traffic) Khoisnam Sarma.

The eviction drive was a part of the campaign to remove different structures built over public places which have been causing severe hindrance to traffic flow at different parts of Imphal city.

Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the eviction drive, Khoisnam Sarma said that people have been experiencing many difficulties on account of construction/extension of shops on public places including footpaths.

To check such illegal activities, an eviction campaign is being carried out under the Police Act since some days back at different places of Imphal city, said the Imphal West SP (Traffic) .

Saying that the ongoing drive would continue, the SP appealed to all concerned particularly shopkeepers not to encroach upon public places like footpaths.

Notably, similar eviction drives have been already carried out along Naga Nullah, Thangmeiband DM College Gate, Dingku Road etc.
