Cultural exchange programme at Kwakta

Troops of 16 Maratha Light Infantry of Logtak Brigade, under Red Shield Division organised a cultural exchange programme at Kwakta today in which the local population was left enthralled and spellbound by the unique display of traditional martial and cultural events.
The rich customs and traditions and the ethnic diversity of the state was showcased by the local troupes who performed Meitei, Naga, Kuki and Pangal events.
The Security Forces from their side showcased their respective traditional events including Lazim (Martial dance of Maharashtra), Bhangra (traditional dance of Punjab), Khukri dance and splendid band display, a statement of the PIB (DW), Imphal said.
A total of 50 boys and girls of various age belonging to Bishnupur, Churachandpur and Tamenglong participated in the event and it was witnessed by hundreds of people from the surrounding area.
The programme was being organised to ensure peace and to foster unity among all ethnic groups and showcase the unity in diversity existimg in the security forces, the release said.
Commanding Officer welcomed all participants and public on the occasion and assured them that Army will always make the extra effort to ensure peace and to bridge the ethnic divide in the area.
The Kwakta town officials, village Pradhans and Chiefs of surrounding villages whole heartedly thanked Army for this initiative and appreciated the Army's role in facilitating peace and harmony in the sensitive area which has seen many ethnic clashes in the past, the statement added.
Meanwhile, as part of continued efforts undertaken by Army to support the educational institutions located in Tamei and nurture the youth and students who play a vital role in progression and development of the society, army personnel from 10 Dorga Regiment had distributed clothing items to 181 needy children of various schools located in Tamei.
The items which included T-Shirts, trousers, shoes and socks were provided to the students of Hamei English School, Apou Kading High School, Liyangna Primary School, UJB Govt Primary School, Langmai Govt High School and Hope Foundation Academy.
This gesture by the army authorities was appreciated by school children and all residents of Tamei, the same released added.
