Lilong firing : JAC formed, cautions 24 hrs general strike on Jan 19

In connection with the death of one Md Sajid (29) who was hit by a bullet from a double-barrel gun fired by unidentified person on Thursday at Lilong Mairenkhun, a public meeting was convened today at Lilong Chaobok Mairenkhun and took several resolutions, including calling a general strike on January 19 if the involved person is not booked and punished according to the law at the earliest.
The incident happened when a team of Thoubal Police and ALADA's volunteers were chasing an alleged drug dealer identified as MdThembung (30), S/o Md Rokshan Ali at Lilong Mairenkhun.
The deceased is the son of Md Ajad of Lilong Chaobok Mairenkhun Makha Tathabi Leikai.
The meeting presided by Lilong Municipal Council (LMC) Ward no 7 Councillor Abdul Kalam; ex Chairperson Md Ashad Ali; AMMOCOC president Md.Ibosana Makakmayum and LMC Member Md Abdul Samad was attended by members of different CSOs namely Rural Areas United Club Organisation (RAUCO), All Manipur Muslim Organisation Coordinating Committee (AMMOCOC), All Manipur Muslim Students Organisation (AMMSO), Lilong Political Unified Link (LIPUL), Anti Social Prevention Organisation (ASPO), All India Tanzeem-E-Insaaf (AITI) and Lilong Mairenkhul Makha Youth Development Org (LMMYDO).
Condemning the incident, the gathering expressed disappointment over the police personnel deployed in the area for letting the incident happened in their presence and not arresting the drugs dealer.
Later, a Joint Action Committee was formed in connection with the incident and adopted several resolutions, including ostracising all the culprit (s) from the locality and giving all their properties to the family of the deceased.
The gathering, while demanding the authority concerned to nab and punish the culprit (s) within 24 hours, also resolved to launch 24 hours general strike on National Highway 102 on January 19 if the demands are not entertained.
At the time of filing this report, there is no news of arresting the culprit (s), said our correspondent.
