Thoubal, July 16 2019:
A BSc Geology student who was initially declared 'fail' in the sixth semester examination conducted by Manipur University turned out to be the '3rd position holder' according to a late corrigendum put on the notice board of the varsity dated July 12.Arina Begum, a student of Waikhom Mani Girls' College, Thoubal, has also missed the MSc form submission deadline for undergoing post graduate studies in Manipur University.
Speaking to media persons at DESAM Thoubal District Council office, its president Surajkumar Oinam said that the result of the 6th semester examination was declared on July 1 and the corrigendum was put on display on the notice board on July 12.Even the Principal of Waikhom Mani Girls' College, of which Arina Begum is a student had no knowledge of the late corrigendum as the varsity failed to inform, he said.
Only 59 students had appeared in the sixth semester BSc Geology examination.
Such discrepancy is uncalled for, he said asserting that DESAM is suspicious of 'irregularities' in evaluation of the answer papers.
Arina Begum had given up hope for further studies due to the earlier result of the examination.
She now has missed the form submission deadline for pursuing MSc in MU.
The varsity has ruined the career of the student, he asserted.
Meanwhile, Arina Begum has condemned the MU authority for the 'error' in the result.
She was surprised and shocked with the earlier result as she had done well in the examination, Arina said.
"What is the use of being the third position holder if I am deprived of further studies due to their (MU) fault?" she asked urging MU authority to avoid such uncalled for discrepancies in future that may jeopardize the future of students.
