Imphal, January 16, 2011:
Festoons and banners for the proposed North East Youth Fest by the Youth Initiative Foundation (YIF), scheduled from January 17 to 19 at Senapati town were destroyed by miscreants.
Predicting a stiff opposition to the holding of the festival, police intelligence had informed higher authorities to take up precautionary measures.
The Youth Initiative Foundation (YIF) is hosting the North East Youth Festival at Senapati district HQ from January 17 to 19. Strong opposition surfaced when the organizers invited some MLAs from the hill districts of Manipur, ANSAM and SDSA said this was against the July 1, 2010 Naga People's Convention Declaration to "sever all political ties with the communal Government of Manipur".
Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) announced a total ban of the festival in Senapati district HQ or at any other place in the district.
They had warned the organizers that any untoward incidents arising from holding the festival will be the sole responsibility of the organizers.
The All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) on January 14 had made a similar announcement.
