Imphal, November 14 2013:
Alleging that the District Transport Officer (DTO), Thoubal issued permits to diesel autos by manipulating dates on which the permits were issued, the Indo-Burma-Sugnu Bus Owners Welfare Union has demanded immediate dismissal of the DTO.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon, secretary of the union Th Radheshyam asserted that the DTO was not abiding by the common decision adopted at a meeting held between transporters and Transport officials on July 17 this year at the level of the Transport Minister.
The meeting resolved not to issue fresh contract carriage permit until the final draft of the Manipur State Transport Policy is released.
The State Transport Director issued an office memorandum on July 19 incorporating the same resolution and copies of the office memorandum were sent to the State transport authorities and regional transport authorities.
Moreover, the resolution was published in mass media on July 20 .
In contravention of the common resolution, DTO Thoubal issued permits to diesel autos on October 29 for introducing passenger service between Sugnu Keithel and Wabagai Lamkhai via Wangoo Lamkhai.
Although the permits were issued on October 29, all the permits were manipulated and marked July 15 .
Demanding dismissal of the DTO by November 18, the union threatened to stop passenger bus service on Burma-Sugnu road from the next day in case their demand goes unheeded.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Bus Owners' Federation, while condemning the Thoubal DTO's unethical conduct, pledged support to the proposed agitation announced by the Indo-Burma-Sugnu Bus Owners Welfare Union.
