KSO Sadar Hills boycotts PM's visit over NSU, calls 12 hours total shutdown on March 16

Blaming the BJP led coalition Government of Manipur for playing with the sentiments of the people over the proposed National Sports University and the repeated failure upon its own commitment over the issue, the KSO Sadar Hills has announced its decision to boycott the Prime Minister's visit to the State on March 16.Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to lay the foundation stone of the National Sports University, when he visits the State on March 16, which according to the student body is full of controversy and the State Government is yet to act on its commitment on the issue.
The KSO has also called a 12 hour total shutdown along National Highway 2 from 6 am till 6 pm.
Speaking to media persons this afternoon at KSO Sadar Hills administrative office at Kangpokpi DHQs, Thangminlen Kipgen, president, KSO Sadar Hills said that the BJP led Government of Manipur has once again failed to adhere to its commitment to its own people over National Sports University.
Recalling the verbal commitment of the State Government, the KSO Sadar Hills president said, it (the State Government} had assured that all controversial issues related to the establishment the National Sports University at Haraothel including land demarcation and necessary paper works will be solved and completed before the Prime Minister's visit to the State to lay the foundation of the said NSU.
He also said that during a joint meeting of both parties of Koutruk, Senjam Chirang and Senjam Khunou and Haraothel in the presence of Sekmai AC MLA, KSO Sadar Hills chaired by Water Resources Minister Letpao Haokip it was agreed that the site of National Sports University be called Haraothel.
He further said that the State Government's representative also assured during the meeting that the exact land of Haraothel allotted for the NSU will be demarcated and all the paper works will be completed and produced before laying the foundation stone.
However, nothing has been implemented till date and despite "our repeated attempt to meet them for the past many days they have ignored us with so many excuses," the exasperated KSO president said.
Considering the failure of the State Government to adhere by its own commitment, KSO Sadar Hills is compelled to boycott the Prime Minister's visit and subsequent plan to lay foundation stone of the National Sports University at Haraothel, asserted Thangminlen Kipgen.
He continued that apart from all kinds of vehicular movement, business establishments, educational institutions including Government offices will be shut down during the total shutdown on March 16 while those on COHSEM exam duty and students will be exempted only with proper documents including identity card, admit card, etc.
The student body also appealed the people of Manipur to understand that the protest is not against the establishment of National Sports University but against the repeated failure of the State Government keep its own commitment and keep fooling the people.
