Lions district conference begins

The 36th annual Lions District conference of Lions Clubs International, District 322D, MANICON 2015, was inaugurated today at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound here.
Flag salutation, observance of one minute silence for world peace, addresses by Lions, presentation of awards to achievers, honouring of new members, yoga awareness demonstration, cultural programme marked the inaugural function today.
Speaking as the chief guest of the inaugural session, Chief Minister O Ibobi said that the Lions Clubs have earned awe and respect for their selfless and tireless services to the needy people all over the world.
Commending the yeoman services rendered by the Lion Clubs across the globe, O Ibobi said that the presence of Lion Clubs' members are mostly felt where relief works are necessary in the event of natural disasters, etc.
The CM expressed happiness that Manipur Lions Club has produced two Grand Prize winners namely, Mahesh Tongbram and Raj Phairembam, both under the sponsorship of Lions Club, Moirang, and three Merit Award winners including the last winner, Soom Soom Malemnganbi Yumnamcha, who was sponsored by Lions Club Ningthoukhong.
He further expressed optimism that Lions of Manipur would continue to provide humanitarian services in the State and beyond wherever there is a call.
The inaugural session today was attended amongst others by State Works Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar, PMJF Lion Siva Nanda Sankar, International Director, Lions Club International, Lion L Priyokumar Singh, Lion MJF RK Dusarigopal Singh and Lion MJF H Manikumar Singh.
Delegates from other NE States like Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Tripura attended the programme.
The conference will end tomorrow.
