Moreh erupts in protest after UKLF leader shot dead

Moreh, July 13 2019:
The town commander of the UKLF identified as John Gangte was shot dead by some unknown persons at Ngamkhai Veng, Moreh Ward No 8 at around 12.20 pm today.
It is said that John Gangte (34) s/o Kailam Gangte of Lonpi Khunou, Sugnu was Moreh town commander of UKLF.
He was riding a two wheeler when he was shot dead in between Mission Veng Moreh Ward No 2 and Ngamkhai Veng, Moreh Ward No 8 .
He bore four fatal bullet marks.
A police team led by Moreh SDPO Binoy Chongtham and Commando OC K Ibungobi went to the spot and recovered one 9 mm pistol, 10 spent cartridges and one two-wheeler (TVS NTorq) .
Although the body has been taken to Moreh police station, it is not clear who killed the UKLF Moreh town commander and why.
Meanwhile, the Hill Tribal Council (HTC), Kuki Women Union & Human Rights (KWU&HR), KSO Moreh Block and Moreh Youth Club have strongly condemned the killing of John Gangte.
A joint press release issued by the four bodies urged the perpetrators of the murder to admit to the crime and give reasons for their heinous act within 24 hours.
While urging the Government to take up befitting action against the murderers immediately, the four bodies have also asked all concerned not to repeat such crimes in future.
Denouncing the murder, they have also called a 24 hour total shutdown in Moreh town with effect from 5 pm today till 4 pm of July 14 .
They further called upon all sections of people to join hands and fight against such anti-social elements in Moreh.
