Imphal, May 13 2016 :
Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL) has appealed all concerned not to call bandh or general strike on May 18, which the organisation observes as Mayek Chatpa Numit.
Addressing media persons at its office today, MEELAL Luchingpurel (president), Moirangthem Naokhomba Meetei said that the Meetei Mayek (script) has now been introduced in Class XII.
MEELAL has been observing May 18 as Mayek Chatpa Numit to commemorate the day it struck an agreement with the State Government in 2005 which paved the way for introduction of the Meetei Mayek in Class I and II in 2006 .
He urged the Govt to organise a State function to mark such day of historic significance.
On the occasion of Mayek Chatpa Numit this year which is slated to be held at GM Hall, winners of the State level Meetei Mayek competition held on May 1 this year will be honoured, he said.
Over 3400 students participated in the competition in five categories.
Cash reward and citation will be presented to first, second, third position winners of each category and 98 consolation prize winners.
Education Minister Dr Ratankumar will grace the programme as the chief guest.
PDA Chairman and MLA T Mangibabu, Director of Education (S) Praveen and other dignitaries will also attend the function.
As such, he appealed to all concerned not to call bandh or strike on the day.
Naokhomba further said that it was very unfortunate that no post for Meetei Mayek teacher is advertised for recruitment of teachers under SSA and RMSA.
He said that there are now many qualified Meetei Mayek teachers.
