One hurt in police action

Imphal, March 13 2016:
One
woman was injured as she was
hit by a tear gas shell when
police tried to drive away bandh
supporters at Namthanjang,
Senapati along Imphal-Jiribam
highway this afternoon.
In support of the bandh
called by the JAC constituted
against the arrest of three
functionaries of Namthanjang
village Church, a large
number of women came out
and blocked the highway
since morning .
At around 4.30 pm, police resorted to firing tear gas shells in their
effort to drive away the bandh supporters and open the highway.
One Hoikim Haokip (42) w/o Doumang of New
Keithelmanbi was hit by a tear gas shell on the right side of
her abdomen.
She was taken to RIMS.
The police team resorted to firing tear gas shells in their
efforts to open a passage for loaded trucks heading towards
Imphal from Jiribam.
Alleging that police committed excesses, JAC chairman
Thangonglung Kamei said that they would intensify their
agitation from tomorrow.
The Government should be held responsible for any unto-
ward incident which may break out in the course of the bandh.
On account of the bandh, no vehicle passed through the
village which is located along Imphal-Jiribam highway.
Bandh supporters put timber and trees across the highway
and burnt tyres.
