'Social Awareness and Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully' initiative kicks off

Imphal, November 12 2021:
State Health Society and Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Services jointly organised a function today to launch the 'Social Awareness and Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully' (SAANS) initiative under the supervision of National Health Mission at IMA Hall located at Lamphelpat.
It may be noted that the program will be conducted till February 28, 2022.The event was graced by Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, Addl MD, Health Services Manipur; Dr Lalthari Hmar, Addl Director (MC) Health Services Manipur and Dr N Shyamjai, State Mission Director, Health Services Manipur, who were honoured as the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, SNO Dr A Sylvia stated that children under 5 years of age are susceptible to pneumonia.
The mortality rate of pneumonia among kids is 14%, she added.
As per Sample Registration System 2018 report, she remarked that 36 out of every 1000 children under the age of 5 succumb to this disease.
Social Awareness and Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) was launched in 2020 with the goal to reduce this figure down to 3 out of every 1000 .
As a part of this initiative, awareness campaigns, tests and treatments, vaccinations and creation of district level committees to take up precautionary measures to battle this disease will be undertaken, A Sylvia remarked.
