Meira Paibis protest unbearable monetary demands, rising prices of essential commodities

Denouncing the exorbitant rising prices of essential commodities and imposition of unbearable monetary demands by different organisations amid the ongoing conflict in the State, a sit-in protest was staged today at Andro Mamang Leikai, Keithel Shang.
The sit-in protest organised by the Meira Paibi Apunba Lup, Andro was participated by more than 250 people from Andro and surrounding areas.
Speaking to media persons, the protesters condemned the high price of essential commodities and the failure of the State Government in taking effective steps to control the price of rice.
They asserted that the people of the State are going through a tough phase owing to the ongoing conflict and the middle-income level people/less privileged are unable to purchase essential food items as the prices have soared frequently.
They also urged the Government to take up immediate measures to curb extortion of money by armed persons from goods carriers transporting essential commodities along the National Highways as it is a major factor for the increasing price of essential commodities in the State.
The protesters also mentioned that the imposition of unbearable monetary demands by different organisations have added more woes to the already suffering people especially the small business owners and daily wage earners.
They appealed to the organisations concerned to consider the plight of the people and refrain from making unreasonable monetary demands in the future.
Furthermore, the protesters urged the Government to take necessary steps to alleviate the suffering of the people caused by the price hike of essential commodities.
Placards with the slogans such as "Control Price Hike in Manipur", "Maintain Rule of Law in Manipur", "Stop threat to Civilians", "Stop creating fear to people", "Free Movement National Highway for all", "Save our children and Save lives of civilians", etc were used extensively at the sit-in protest.
