Imphal, August 12 2019:
The Tangkhul Katamnao Long, Imphal (TKLI)/(Tangkhul Students' Union Imphal), together with Imphal Tangkhul Shanao Long (ITSL)/(Tangkhul Womens' Organisation Imphal) have strongly condemned the mysterious death of Ningthoujam Babysana inside the hostel of Standard Robarth Hr Secondary School on July 18.A press release issued by the two associations today conveyed that such act should be condemned by every citizen and urged the State Government to earnestly investigate the matter and deliver justice to Babysana by punishing the culprits involved so as to prevent such unfortunate incidents in the future.
On the other hand, the All Manipur Tribal Union also condemned the death of Babysana.
A statement issued by the association today mentioned that in the past, murder and suicide in the schools of Manipur were unheard of but now, the people are witnessing the present education system being smeared with molestation, rape, murder, suicide and more, adding that the education sector seems to be disintegrating and the value system seems compromised.
Condemning the incident at the highest level, AMTU expressed sympathies to the bereaved family.
Reminding the State Government that cold cases of deaths and murders in some of the worst places have been solved, it asked how hard can a death within the confines of four walls, surrounded by fellow students, teachers and wardens be that hard to solve.
AMTU stated that it is surprising the case has not been solved till date and demanded the Government and the police to look into the case with clear and true intention, without bias and prejudice of caste, creed, colour, status, wealth, or powerful connections.
This case is no more just an investigation into the death of Ningthoujam Babysana but also the representation of the justice system and it will set a precedent for the future, the trustworthiness and reliability of the State Police Department, the union reasoned and appealed to the Government and the police to solve the case at the earliest and deliver justice for Babysana.
Coalition Against Drug and Alcohol (CADA) has also spoken out against the death of Ningthoujam Babysana as well as the failure of the authorities concerned to bring a definitive conclusion to the case.
A statement issued by the secretary information and publicity of CADA today explained that arresting the leaders and members of the JAC will not bring lasting solution to the issue and cautioned the Government from making rash decisions which can deteriorate the situation even further.
Demanding the authorities concerned to solve the case and deliver justice for Babysana at the earliest, CADA also demanded the Government to clear the apprehension among the people regarding the case as well as to enable the students of the school concerned to attend normal classes soon.
