International Nurses Day observed in State

Shija Hospital and Research Institute (SHRI), Imphal observed the International Nurses Day today at its premises with the theme Closing the Gap: Evidence to Action to commemorate the 192nd Birth Anniversary of Florence Nightingale.
The occasion was graced by Retired Nursing Superintendent of RIMS, Ng Binodi, who is also the first nurse of Manipur; Dr S Jugindro, Medical Superintendent of SHRI; and Dr Kh Palin, Managing Director of SHRI as the chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Dwelling on the theme, Dr S Jugindro said there is probability of averting over 50 percent of mortality rate if the existing knowledge in medicine
were applied practically.
Stressing on the need to excel other states in the field of health care in globalisation era, Dr Jugindro said Manipur can become an International health care hub provided its practitioners met the global standard while exhorting the medical practioners to translate their knowledge into practice in order to meet the required standard.
Binodini was of the opinion that the required standard could be attained only with dedication and sacrificial spirit.
Dr Palin urged the nurses of Shija Academy of Nursing and SHRI to serve with care and balance their mind while dealing with distressed patient parties.
At the same time, the International Nurses Day was also observed at RIMS today.
Offering of floral tribute at the portrait of Florence Nightingale and renewed pledge to serve the weak and ailing marked the Nurses' Day celebration held today at RIMS jubilee Hall with Director of the medical institution Prof S sekharjit Singh gracing the event as the chief guest.
While Prof Sekharjit led the gathering in paying obeisance to Nightingale, the English nurse remembered for her work during the Crimean War (1820-1910), and considered to be the pioneer of the nursing profession, nursing staff and students of RIMS took the oath under the Hospital's Assistant Nursing Superintendent M Jamuna Devi.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sekharjit exhorted the nurses to strive for emulating the humane service rendered by Florence Nightingale.
Describing setting up of College of Nursing in 2009 as one of the greatest achievements of RIMS, he also expressed that dedicated learning would be helpful to the nursing students attain their goal in the future career as nurse.
Advising the nursing staff to ensure sincere and dedicated service to the patients in order to help the patients recover expeditiously and be mentally satisfied with the treatment, he pointed out that efficient service should be priority of every medical personnel to promote status of the medical institution.
Several officials of RIMS and College of Nursing also participated at the celebration.
