Imphal, February 12 2018:
The 42 hours bandh imposed by the KCP (Nongdrenkhomba), which has signed an MoU with the Government has been withdrawn after a meeting with Additional Chief Secretary Dr J Suresh Babu today at 12.30 pm.
The bandh was called off after the Additional Chief Secretary assured to put up some of their demands to the Chief Minister for due consideration and their demands would be met soon, said the outfit in a statement.
Earlier in the day the bandh affected normal life in Imphal, although there are no reports of any untoward incident.
The bandh was imposed allegedly against the Government' failure to give a positive response to the charter of demands submitted by the outfit so far.
Important commercial places of Imphal were affected by the bandh today as all shops and business establishments along Thangal bazar and Paona bazar remained closed.
The number of women vendors and street vendors in the three Ima markets were also comparatively low due to the bandh.
Inter-district bus service and other transport service vehicles also suspended service for the day, except for some few Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) buses and private vehicles.
Private schools, banks and petrol pumps in the State capital also remained closed during the bandh.
A large number of security personnel were seen deployed at various important junctions of the capital to prevent any untoward incident.
There has been no report of any unwanted incident during the course of the bandh imposed by the outfit.
