Leading up to the observance of Nupi Lan Numit 2024, a one-day voluntary blood donation camp was held today at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) Hospital, Porompat under the theme "Emasingda Kathokchaba Ee" .
The camp was jointly organised by Ningol Club, Eco-Network Heirok, Humanity Service Foundation, Heirok and Manipur Peoples' Defence Force (MPDF) Unit-C1 in collaboration with JNIMS Blood Centre, said a statement issued by Shinthangamba Laishram, president, Eco-Network Heirok.
Speaking in this connection, Surjit Konsam, Medical Officer in-charge, Blood Bank & Transfusion Unit, JNIMS, hailed the organisers for conducting the annual blood donation camp.
In recognition of the theme, he said that the blood donated today will be given freely especially to maternity cases while adding that it will breathe life into patients in cases like blood cancer, road accidents etc that require blood transfusion.
Meanwhile, Shinthangamba Laishram asserted that the voluntary blood donation camp was held in remembrance of the 1939 Nupi Lan and to honour the bravery of the womenfolk who rose against the British empire.
Addressing the low rate of blood donation in the State, he urged those eligible to donate blood to do so to eliminate shortage of blood in blood banks.
