Imphal, December 11 2013:
Participants of the International Human Rights Day observance at Trade Centre, Moreh yesterday have unanimously pledged to carry on the struggle until people of the North East are ensured their rights.
The observance programme was jointly organised by Women Action for Development (WAD), NEDF, UNM-M, New Life Foundation, Resource Upliftment Centre for Human Interest, and Social Action for Development.
Speaking as the resource person, U Nobokishore, secretary of CASD said that genocide has been carried upon the people of the North East including Manipur.
Although the Naga-Kuki conflict was termed as ethnic conflict, it was not actually ethnic conflict but a genocide.
The arms suppliers during the conflict was a common knowledge, he said.
He said that perpetrators of genocide would be punished one day while urging the people to carry on the struggle for their rights until the goal is achieved.
Advocate Basantakumar Khumukcham of HRA said that on Dec 10, 1948 the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was proclaimed.
However, the people of the State are still denied their rights.
Whether another proclamation is needed to ensure rights to the people of Manipur is a question worth pondering.
President of HTC, Jangmang Haokip advocated collective struggle of the people so as to ensure their rights.
OC of Moreh PS, T Vaiphei said that all irrespective of class, creed or profession have equal rights.
