Farmers' meet

Former Home Secretary GK Pillai today attended a Farmers Conference here under the aegis of ZEPADA wherein he assured all possible help to uplift the farming community from the district.
Pillai attended the annual farmers' conference organized by ZEPADA along with his better half Sudha Pillai, also a retired bureaucrat, at New Lamka YPA Hall and awarded a handful of farmers for their exemplary performance.
Vungzagin Valte, Parliamentary Secretary, Horticulture, SC and CADA also attended the conference alongside Langkhanpau Guite, the ADCC Chairman and Jacintha Lazarus, the Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur.
The Pillais have congratulated ZEPADA for innumerable initiative to uplift the local farmers while also introducing a means to replace the unproductive jhum system of farming in the hills.
Valte on his part said that the state is yet to explore its hidden treasure.
'This was my first speech on the floor of the assembly and I will continue to work for tapping these hidden treasures,' he said.
The lady commissioner had also stress on the need to exploit the God given fertility of the land and highlighted the need for selfless efforts from bottom-up in order to reap the maximum harvest.
Officials from various commodity boards along with whom the ZEPADA has been working hand in hand to uplift the farming community and their system also attended the conference.
