Imphal, July 11 2024:
The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), has appealed to the Government to appoint only qualified and experienced person who have been in the teaching profession or related departments as Director of Directorate of Education (S), Education (U) and SCERT.
In a release, DESAM highlighted the necessary qualifications for a teacher such as D.EL.Ed, B.ed, M.ed, NET, JRF, M Phil & Ph.D and claimed that there is a huge gap in the administration by MCS/ IAS officers as they do not have the necessary training.
The student body asserted that people in the teaching profession are more experienced and equipped to implement the policy programmes initiated by NCTE, UGC, NCERT and other educational authorities from time to time.
DESAM also stated that it will be better for the students community if people in the teaching profession who have first hand experience/ knowledge about the problems/ issues faced by students & teachers are in different positions upto the Director level.
Recalling the instances of the Regular Principal of Colleges being appointed as Additional Director and Director of Education(U), the student body appealed to the State Government to do the same and appoint a qualified person as Additional Director/ Director of Education(S) from among the MES officers who were selected in 2016 .
Further, DESAM appealed to the Chief Minister and Education Minister to look into the matter and take necessary action at the earliest.
