Imphal, February 10 2020:
The All Manipur College Teachers' Association (AMCTA) has threatened to launch a cease work strike from February 12 in case their demand for implementation of the 7th UGC pay scales is not implemented by February 11 .
A mass mobilisation campaign is going on and constituent units/colleges have adopted a firm stance on the demand for implementation of the 7th UGC pay scales, conveyed a press release issued by AMCTA.
A team of AMCTA went to Churachandpur College and held a meeting with the Churachandpur College Teachers' Council where a firm position was adopted regarding the demand.
A similar meeting was also held with the Moirang College Teachers' Association.
Notably, a massive protest rally cum meeting of college teachers was held on February 6 and the meeting decided to launch cease work strike from February 12 .
As such, all colleges located in the hill districts and valley districts of the State would launch cease work strike unitedly from February 12, it said.
The cease work strike would seriously affect academic atmosphere in all colleges but the Government should be held accountable for the same, AMCTA asserted.
Teachers are aware that the cease work strike would breed many difficulties for students but such protest agitation is necessary in the interest of the teacher community and higher education, it claimed.
It went on to assert that out of the total 28 States of the country, 7th UGC pay scales have been already implemented in 25 States.
Among the North Eastern States, Manipur is the only State which has not yet implemented the 7th UGC pay scales.
Within Manipur, 7th Pay has been already revised for other departments, AMCTA said.
It is only the teachers working under Higher Education Department whose pay scales have not been revised yet.
Such step-motherly treatment is something not expected from a responsible Government, remarked the college teachers' body.
As pay scales for other employees have been revised, pay scales of college teachers ought to be revised without any further delay, it added.
