CCTV cameras to debut in std XII exam

To ensure clean and fair conduct of the upcoming Class XII exam to be conducted by the Council of Higher Education Manipur (COHSEM), Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras will be fitted on trial basis at some exam centres.
This was decided during a meeting convened by Commissioner of Education (S), H Deleep Singh yesterday at SSA office, Babupara.
The meeting was attended by all Deputy Commissioners of the State and officials of COHSEM and Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) .
According to an official source, the meeting discussed free and fair conduct of the upcoming Class X and Class XII exams to be conducted by BOSEM and COHSEM respectively.
COHSEM chairman C Arthur W and secretary of BOSEM Ch Sarat highlighted the measures taken up so far to ensure free and fair conduct of Class XII exam slated to begin from Feb 22 and Class X exam scheduled to begin from March 1.The Class XII exam centres where CCTV cameras are to be fitted will be intimated to the DCs concerned after the Council identifies such centres.
The monitors of the cameras will be installed at the room of the Officers in-charge of the respective cen- tres, the source said.
The Council will also depute officials to the centres where CCTV cameras are fitted.
The officials will submit the recordings of the cameras to the respective DCs, the source added.
The meeting further decided to duly acknowledge officials/functionaries who are discharging exam duties sincerely.
Besides, it decided that the respective DCs recommend the officials who perform duties sincerely, the source said.
The meeting also decided that fitting action be initiated against dishonest officials by the Controlling officers as per provisions of related rules within a given period.
FIR should be lodged at the police stations concerned against any individuals who resort to any unfair practice or misconducts, the source said.
Deliberating the matter pertaining to allowing/prohibiting volunteers of students' organisation inside exam centres, the meeting decided that the volunteers be allowed to enter the centres in the hill districts as per schedules charted out by the respective DCs.
In respect of exam centres in the valley districts, the schedules for inspection by student organisations' volunteers will be prepared by BOSEM and COHSEM.
It further decided that not more than one team of volunteers be allowed to enter a centre in a day.
The official said that this step has been taken to ensure that the students are not distracted or disturbed.
The volunteers should not be allowed to enter the exam hall.
However, they will be allowed to meet the OC of the respective centres.
The meeting also decided that RMSA teachers be assigned duties in the upcoming examinations.
Further, it decided that steps to disseminate these decisions to the public be initiated, the source added.
