Mukada fest celebrated amidst fanfare

Imphal, May 09 2016:
Mukada or Muda, a festival of Kharam tribe that marks the end of end of seed sowing, was celebrated amidst fanfare at Kharam Pallen today.
The festival was marked by inviting married sisters for lunch and seeking their blessings for fruitful harvest by the brothers.
According to Kharam Pallen khulakpa Umsophun Kharam, eight members of the village council, on the day, would acknowledge the hard work of a family that has the largest stock of paddy in the granary.

Bosco Jaiche Kharam, one of the leaders of Kharam Students' Union Manipur stated that total population of Kharam tribe is only about one thousand.
The tribe has altogether six festivals.
However, Mukada festival is the only festival that is being celebrated these days.
The festival programme was also attended by AMUCO vice-president Ph Deban Sharma, UCM president Elangbam Johnson and DESAM president Moirangthem Angamba.
