Imphal, November 08 2012:
State Health Society has distributed mobile phones to ASHAs, ASHA facilitators, staff nurses and ANMs in a simple function held today at Hotel Imphal.
The function was attended by Health and Family Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing as chief guest and Principal Secretary (Health) R Muivah as functional president.
State Health Society Mission Director Devesh Deval, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Child Health) DC Dr Pradeep Haldar and PHP NHSRC senior consultant Padam Khana were also present at the function as guests of honour.
Speaking at the function, Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing underscored the responsibility of ASHAs to cater to the health care requirements of women and children in rural areas.
To accomplish such a mission, ASHAs need to work with dedication and commitment.
ASHA Lani Pasel from Moreh said that the mobile phones given to them would help in discharging their duties more efficiently as transport and communication facilities in hill districts are disheartening.
Under National Rural Health Mission, ASHAs have been already provided bicycles, radio sets, raincoats, torchlights etc.
