Directorate of Family Welfare Services today launched the second phase of Mission Indradhanush .
Family Welfare Director Dr K Rajo, State Nodal Officer (Immunization) Dr Nandakishore and Family Welfare Deputy Director Dr Th Arunkumar attended the launching function as dignitaries.
Dr Nandakishore said that the mission aims to immunize all the children upto the age of two against seven diseases namely diphtheria, whooping cough (Pertussis), tetanus, polio, tuberculosis, measles and Hepatitis-B by 2020 using pantavelant vaccines.
In some identified districts and States, children are also immunized to prevent Haemophilus Influenza Type-B and Japanese Encephalitis, he said.
Dr Th Arunkumar said that Mission Indradhanush was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as past immunization programmes were not fully succeeded.
Urging the parents not to panic with the vaccination of their children, Dr Arunkumar said that smallpox has been eradicated through immunization.
In his speech, Dr K Rajo said that Mission Indradhanush was launched by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on December 25 last year.
The first phase of the mission was carried out in Churachandpur, Tamenglong, Senapati and Ukhrul districts.
The second phase would cover Imphal East, Chandel, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts, he said.
