Imphal, May 08 2022:
Reacting sharply to the alleged prohibition being placed by KSO in entering Thangjing Hill, the Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL), Manipur has asked why people should take permission from a group of people in entering the hill range.
A press release issued by KKL said that the particular organisation making such a strong statement is very unfortunate.
The KKL also asked KSO to furnish evidence of their claim that some organisations have been creating fuss with unfounded allegations and to reveal whomever they are referring to in the statement.
Saying that there are many sites sacred to Meetei/Meitei in Thangjing Hill and they have been existing since the days of yore, KKL urged all concerned to stop calling Thangjing Hill as Thangting.
The KKL said that banning the Meetei/Meitei from entering the place sacred to them is nothing but a brazen disrespect to the ethnic group.
The lup then urged the State Government to take up action against KSO for imposing bandh/blockade on numerous occasions as the organisation is registered under Societies Registration Act.
"They are also the group of people who have been damaging nature through frequent deforestation and forest fire for some monetary gain," KKL claimed and urged all concerned to stop attempting to distort the connection between Meitei/Meetei and sites sacred to them such as Mt Koubru and Thangjing Hill immediately.
Saying that the initiative taken up by the State Government to safeguard Mt Koubru and Thangjing Hill is encouraging and KKL will support it, the statement urged KSO to clarify its purported statement at the earliest.
Meanwhile, Senior Citizen for Manipur, Moirang Chapter has also announced it will extend support to whatever measures taken up to protect Thangjing hill range.
