Bishnupur, February 08 2025:
Urging the State Government to workout a way to resolve the almost 2-year old conflict at the upcoming Assembly session set to begin from February 10, a sit-in protest was staged today at Phougakchao Ikhai Bazar under Kumbi Assembly Constituency.
The protest demonstration was organised by the Torbung Phougakchao Ikhai Apunba Meira Paibi and youths of the area.
Folks from different parts of Torbung Gram Panchayat took part in the sit-in protest.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, Keithellakpam Kegesana, a meira paibi from Phougakchao Ikhai, said that people in the buffer zones are facing insurmountable hardships owing to the protracted conflict.
The State Government has failed to monitor and address the needs of the displaced folks who have lost their homes and earthly possessions in the violence.
She urged the State legislators to stop camping in Delhi waiting for commands from the Prime Minister and Home Minister.
She pointed out that if their flight fares are instead donated to a widow or a needy person, it will be enough to fund a means of livelihood for them.
Kegesana also accused the Ministers and MLAs of asking the public to be united while harbouring divisions within their own camps.
Though the ten Kuki MLAs are united in their stand to disintegrate Manipur, why can't the remaining 50 MLAs come together, she asked.
Highlighting the condition of students in buffer zones, she .
maintained that their parents, who work mostly as daily wage earners, are facing challenges in paying their school fees due to shortage of work.
In view of such deplorable circumstances, she appealed the 50 MLAs of the State to go beyond party lines and work out a solution to end the Manipur conflict at the upcoming Assembly session.
The protesters raised many slogans today including "Save Manipur, Save Future", "Resolve the Manipur crisis", "Stop going to Delhi", "Save indigenous people" among others.
