Meira Paibis protest against NIA probe on Arambai Tenggol leader

A sit-in protest was staged today at Khewa Sagolmang in Khundrakpam AC demanding withdrawal of an FIR filed against Korounganba Khuman, leader of Arambai Tenggol by National Investigation Agency (NIA) .
The sit-in was participated by a large number of Meira Paibis from Yumnam Patlou, Sagolmang; Khewa Sagolmang and Khewa Phuju.
The Meira Paibis also demanded safe release of Laishram Kamalbabu whose whereabouts remain unknown after his mysterious disappearance on November 25.Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the sit-in, Sagolmang Meira Paibi president Thoibi Leima denounced the Government's handling of the prolonged conflict which has been going on for more than 18 months.
Questioning the logic of pulling up village volunteers who were only defending innocent and helpless villagers, she said, "The Government must ponder on why the youth who should be going to schools and colleges took up arms".
She also condemned the attempt to arrest' Korounganba Khuman, asserting that Arambai Tenggol is not a militant group and that neither its members nor village volunteers should free arrest.
Thoibi Leima declared that Arambai Tenggol played a crucial role in defending the Meitei community from Kuki aggression, and vowed that the women of Meitei would stand in support of Kourunganba Khuman and all village volunteers.
Furthermore, Thoibi Leima demanded the Government to trace the whereabouts of Laishram Kamalbabu who went missing from an Army camp located at Leimakhong.
The protesters displayed placards with the writings such as, "Withdraw the case filed against Korounganba", "Don't arrest Village Volunteers", "We condemn the charges levelled against Korounganba by NIA", etc.
