Clear Rs 434 crore bill: BSNL to Govt

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has urged the State Government to pay the bill for land-line telephone as well as telecom services utilised by various Departments of the State, amounting to around Rs 4,34,03,296.Out of the many Government Departments, Manipur Assembly Secretariat has clinched the top position with Rs 77,74,361 pending bill amount.
MSPDCL which is supplying electricity to the people through prepaid system has also been found owing Rs 11,24,950 in pending bills.
According to information received by The Sangai Express from an official source, George T Mathai, Chief General Manager of BSNL North East II Telecom Circle, Dimapur, sent a notice to the State Government urging the Government to pay its pending bills amounting to Rs 4,34,03,296.Explaining about the notice sent to the State Government, the source informed that 26 State Government Departments owe between Rs 1,00,000 and Rs 77,74,361 in land-line telephone, broadband internet and other telecom service bill.
The Assembly Secretariat owes around Rs 77,74,361, DGP Manipur office owes Rs 65,91,912, GAD owes Rs 17,74,041, MSPDCL owes Rs 11,24,950, DC Ukhrul office owes Rs 8,38,157, CCTNS owes Rs 8,26,602, PWD owes Rs 7,34,092, Governor Secretariat owes Rs 4,81,345, Veterinary owes Rs 4,58,722, Education owes Rs 4,19,907, CEO Office owes Rs 4,41,727, PHED owes Rs 2,77,665 while Information Technology Department owes Rs 3,77,854, the source explained.
Out of the total pending bill, Rs 2,59,20,703 is for land-line usage, Rs 19,594 is for GSM , Rs 1,52,499 for CDMA, Rs 82,756 is for WIMAX and Rs 1,72,27,744 is for leased circuit.
The source continued that DGP Manipur (Manipur police) has 182 land-line connections, CCTNS has 71, GAD has 56, Assembly Secretariat has 42, MSPDCL has 34, CEO Manipur has 29 while the Veterinary Department has 22 land-line connections.
Speaking about the State Government's preparation to pay of the pending bill, the source conveyed that the State Government has directed the Departments concerned to pay off the pending bills at the earliest.
The Finance Department has also written to the Administrative Secretaries concerned regarding the issue, the source added.
