Jiribam, August 06 2024:
The District Transport Office (DTO), Jiribam remains inoperative to the woes of the people in the border district as there is no staff to run the office.
Notably, civil society organisations based in Jiribam have been urging the Government to establish a DTO in Jiribam and make it functional since many years back.
Reportedly, some District Transport Offices (DTOs) were virtually inaugurated by Chief Minister N Biren Singh including in Jiribam on March 11, 2024 .
Though DTO has been set up in Jiribam, the office remains non functional as there is no staff, causing disappointment among the people.
Speaker to Jiri News Network, Y Ranjita Devi, a resident of Dibong Khunou, said that going to Imphal from Jiribam for vehicle registration process and other works has become problematic as the border district doesn't have a functioning District Transport Office.
Saying that they either have to take a flight or helicopter to go to Imphal which is unaffordable to many as the land route has become unsafe, she added that there is also no guarantee their work in Imphal would complete in a day.
She urged the Government to make the DTO in Jiribam functional as soon as possible.
Notably, people of Jiribam have been facing a lot of issues in coming to Imphal for vehicle registration and other urgent works due to expenditure problems and the bad road and infrastructure conditions.
Owing to these issues, many people in Jiribam registered their vehicles in Assam, thereby letting the neighbouring State to earn additional revenue.
