Reception cum certificate distribution function of the elected members of the first Bar Council of Manipur was held at Manipur High Court Auditorium hall today evening.
The function was attended by senior advocates, learned advocates and other officials of High Court of Manipur.
Speaking at the reception function of the newly elected members of the 1st Bar Council of Manipur, RO of the election, N Rojit, Joint Registrar (Administration), HCM said that the process for conducting the election of the 1st Bar Council members was started a month back.
Altogether, 30 advocate members have filed their nomination papers for the election.
Out of the 30 advocate members, one withdrew his nomination.
He also said that they collected Rs 1.20 lakh as fees from the 29 candidates.
The election was held on April 4 at the High Court of Manipur Auditorium Hall with 4 polling booths and the casting of vote started from 9 am and continued till 4 pm, he said.
Out of 732 electoral members, 632 cast their votes.
Counting of votes was held yesterday from 10 am onward.
Among the 29 candidates, 15 have been elected as members of the 1st Bar Council of Manipur.
The elected members are Okram Madhumangol Singh, Namoijam Ibotombi Singh, Kangabam Rabei Singh, RK Nokulsana Singh, Ramung Shimrah Reisang, Khaidem Santa Singh, A Jagjit Singh, Lamabam Shyamkishwor Singh, Yelam Ramananda Singh, Irom Lalitkumar Singh, Chingangbam Dhananjoy Singh, Naorem Kumarjit Singh, Khwairakpam Iboyaima, Konjengbam Manorama Devi and Soibam Devajot Singh.
The chairman and vice-chairman of the Bar Council will be selected from amongst the 15 elected members.
Portfolios including the chairman and vice-chairman would be assigned to the elected members during their first meeting which is likely to take place soon.
The RO also handed certificate of election to the elected members.
The Bar Council election was held for the first time in the State after a separate High Court was established in 2013 .
The elected Bar Council members will look after the welfare of the Advocates.
The council's tenure is two year.
