Imphal, February 06 2021:
The Demand Committee on Creation of Autonomous District Councils (Pherzawl, Kamjong, Noney & Tengnoupal) has urged the State Government not to conduct ADC elections before ADCs for Pherzawl, Kamjong, Noney and Tengnoupal are created.
In a statement issued today, the demand committee asserted that they would pressurise the State Government for an early step to establish ADCs in the new districts.
Kangpokpi (Sadar Hills) District Council on the other hand was created before it became a district, it reminded and cautioned that it would be constrained to launch democratic agitations if their demands are not entertained.
The demand committee submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on January 30, 2021 for the creation of ADCs in the new districts, it said and added that a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was also filed with the High Court of Manipur on January 21 demanding justice given the State's inaction to empower the new districts under Article 371 (C) of the Constitution and for delay in carrying out delimitation process for the new districts.
According to the statement, the demand committee was formed on January 15, 2021 with Simon Kamei from Noney as its convenor and Yanglet Haokip (Tamenglong); Lalringum Inbuon (Pherzawl) and Prem Keishing (Kamjong) as co-convenors.
