Sangai population increasing, says Range Officer (Range-I), KLNP

Range Officer (Range-I) of Keibul Lamjao National Park N Birchandra has categorically stated that there is probability of Sangai population increasing at the National Park due to lesser instances of poaching in the last few years.
He made the statement at World Environment Day observation held at Atom Yaima Junior High School, today.
The programme was jointly organised by Childhood Friends, Keibul Lamjao and local clubs in association with Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun.
The programme was graced by CAMPA Sangai, WII, Dehradun Project Scientist Dr Chungpi Tuboi, ZEO (Zone IV-B) Nepram Tikendrajit and Officer-in-charge of Keibul Lamjao Police Station Lamngangchung Kamsong as presidium members.

Addressing the function, Birchandra said that the rate of poaching and felling trees at the National Park has dropped considerably since the last five years or so.
Saying that there are clues of Sangai population increasing since the last count in 2018, the Range Officer continued that the State Government will carry out a Sangai census shortly.
He also said that the number of wildlife at the National Park will surely increase with the support of the people.
