Youth Adventure and Water Sports Festival concludes

A 10-day Youth Adventure and Water Sports Festival-2019 organised by Manipur Mountaineering & Trekking Association (MMTA) concluded today.
The valedictory ceremony held at Lamdan, Churachandpur was attended by Media Advisor to CM, Arun Irengbam as chief guest; MMTA president, Bijoy Kakchingtabam as functional president and Directorate of Tourism Deputy Director, Dr Yumnam Suraj Singh guest of honour.
On the closing ceremony, winners of different competitions which was arranged as part of the festival and artists who presented cultural programmes were feted.
The dignitaries also encouraged the 58 member trekking team who climbed the Laimaton Hill.
At the event, Arun Irengbam lauded MMTA for promoting Adventure Tourism in the State.
Saying that Manipuri people are known for possessing different talent in different fields and MMTA can encourage the youth to lead a healthy lifestyle, Arun asserted that he will consult Minister and Department concerned to support MMTA in their initiative.
Bijoy Kakchingtabam, while saying that the festival was organised as part of Sangai Festival in the previous editions, said that the Youth Adventure and Water Sports Festival was organised separately this year due to some circumstances and issues besieging the State.
Acknowledging that adventure sports are becoming popular among the youth these days, Bijoy opined that river rafting can be hosted at Barak River.
If the Government provide a place to conduct activity related to water sports at Loktak Lake, the said sports can also be promoted in the State and produce world-class athlete, he added.
The festival was sponsored by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India and Directorate of Tourism, Government of Manipur.
