Remand for wife, Pradhan in murder case

Khunjamayum Helen alias Thoi (25) w/o (L) Khunjamayum Arun of Bamon Kampu Makha Leikai and her paramour Naosekpam Rabi (28) Pradhan of Bamon Kampu Gram Panchayat, were remanded to judicial custody till May 18 in connection with the brutal murder of Arun, after they were produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East today.
For the hearing today, the accused persons were produced before the Court under tight security at around 10.30 am .
The IO of the case, through the APP submitted that N Rabi was arrested in connection with the case from Irilbung PS while Helen, wife of the deceased, was arrested from Bamon Kampu, after a case was filed by the father of the deceased on April 23, stating that on the previous day (April 22) his son Arun had their left house at around 10 pm but failed to return home and on the following day he was found dead at Landhrei Loukol Bamon Kampu.
The father also expressed suspicion that his son might have killed by Pradhan N Rabi.
The IO further submitted that on arriving at the police station concerned from the spot where the body was found the accused Pradhan was found at Irilbung police station along with his Maruti Alto car and accordingly the car was thoroughly inspected along with State forensic expert team during which some blood stains were found.
During police custody period, the accused Rabi disclosed that he has been having an illicit affair with Helen for some years now and that he is the biological father of her new born child.
Further he also disclosed that on April 22, when he returned home in the evening, he found Arun sitting at his porch and as such without entering his house, he took him (Arun) and his five year old son to watch a leela ( street play) at Bamon Kampu Litan Makhong.
After watching the leela they went to Irilbung Bazar later dropped Arun near Panchayat Ghar Bamon Kampu while he and his son went directly home.
The accused further revealed that after changing his dress, he went to Imphal in his car and brought some fish and items for his baby boy (Helen's new born son) and went to Urup (Helen's parental home).
On his way back home he got a phone call from some locals who informed him about the elopement of a married woman to another man and as such he went to Irilbung PS for negotiation.
At around 11.30 pm, he reached home but made no phone call/message nor received any messages or calls from anyone, the IO added.
On the other hand, the IO submitted that Helen also disclosed that she had an illicit affair with N Rabi and admitted that he was the father of her new born child.
She also revealed that her husband (Arun) came to know about the secret before she gave birth recently.
She admitted that her husband and the Pradhan frequently quarrelled and fought with each other and Arun often scolded her.
On April 19, after having a quarrel with Arun, she left home and stayed at her maternal uncle's residence and during her stay there, N Rabi visited her.
However both of them agreed not to disclose her whereabouts to Arun nor her in laws.
The IO further pointed out that during further investigation of the call records of the victim, his wife and her paramour, it was found that the Pradhan's phone was active till midnight of the day of the incident as his number was found sending an unusual message to Helen, which is totally against the statement given by the accused that he made no call/ message nor received any call/ message as soon as he reached home.
The seized items in connection with the case have been sent to forensic science laboratory for obtaining expert opinion and results are awaited which will play a vital role in the investigation, the IO mentioned praying for judicial custody remand of the two accused.
The Court heard and went through the case diary and remanded the two accused to judicial custody till April 18 .
