Imphal, February 04 2025:
Manipur State Council, Communist Party of India (MSC/CPI) assistant secretary M Joykumar has declared that the new Union Budget 2025-26 is not pro-people.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhawan, BT Road today, M Joykumar said that the Budget is antipoor and anti working class as there is no increase in the amounts allocated to health, education and social sector.
On another note, contrary to the Finance Minister's claim that the GDP will increase by 6.3%, it has instead dropped to 5.6/5.7% .
As a result, it will be possible to make India one of the top economies in the world, as frequently touted by the Indian Government, said M Joykumar.
Stating that the Budget is not pro-people, he added that it favours the wealthy while the small scale industries sector have been left empty-handed.
Though the Look East Policy has been succeeded by the Act East Policy, the total budget allocated for the North East region is merely 5,915 crore.
Notably, crisis-stricken Manipur has been largely disregarded in this Budget as seen by the lack of any financial or economic package for the people, he claimed.
Meanwhile, N Singhajit, assistant secretary, MSC/CPI asserted that the Union Budget is also dismissive of farmers.
Even though the agriculture sector in India contributes approximately 16% to the country's GDP, the Budget has not taken the welfare of farmers into account as shown by the reduced fertilizer subsidy among others, said N Singhajit.
The Union Budget 2025-26 is not for the common people, it is pro-corporate and anti-farmer.
A countrywide protest against the Budget will be launched tomorrow, he added.
MSC/CPI spokesperson RK Amusana was also present at the press conference.
