Protest over brutal murder of students continues

Demanding stringent punishment for the culprits involved in the gruesome killing of the two innocent students, massive protests were held in the State and beyong.
More than 700 students held a silent and peaceful protest at Guwahati Manipuri Basti Rajbari Athletic Club ground in condemnation against the merciless killing of the two young and innocent students.
The protest was organised by All Assam Manipuri Students Union (AAMSU) .
The students studying in various educational institutions and universities in and around Guwahati namely Assam Down Town University; Royal Global University; Assam Don Bosco University; NERIM; Allen Career Institute; IIIM; TISS Guwahati; NEF Law College and USTM etc partook in the protest and paid homage to the two departed souls.

Eminent academicians and scholars also spoke in connection with the tense situation in Manipur at the occasion.
Thoubal district witnessed massive protest demonstrations by the locals, Meira Paibis and students condemning the twin killing and urged the Government to provide befitting punishment to the culprits involved in the heinous crime and to retrieve the bodies of the slain students and hand over the mortal remains to their respective families for performing the last rites.
The protestors also strongly condemned the brutal assault of the students who were protesting against the twin murder by the security forces and demanded that strict actions should be taken against those personnel.
Condemning the brutal killing of Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi, Khunai Kanba Apunba Meira Paibi Lup ( KHUKAMPAL), Thoubal District in association with Thoubal Wangmataba Sorok Mathak Makha Apunba Meira Paibi Lup staged a sit-in protest at Wangmataba Devi Mandhop today.
Similar protests were staged by Athokpam Apunba Meira Paibi Lup at Thoubal Athokpam Keithel ; Tentha Apunba Meira Paibi Lup at Tentha; Manipur Nursing Institute students at the institute's gate; members of Pioneers Club and Meira Paibi at Wangjing Hodambada Maning Leikai and Rising Union Club in association with Apunba Meira Paibi Lup Khangabok at Khangabok Makha Part-III Community Hall.
Students of Nawa Sindam Shang, Thoubal Kshetri Leikai held a condolence ceremony for the peace of the two departed students.
Decrying the brutal murder, the students of Nawa Sindam Shang demanded justice for Phijam Hemanjit and Hijam Linthoingambi and condemned the excessive use of force by the security personnel upon the students who were carrying out democratic protests.
The students of Nawa Sindam Shang also declared that they will continue their protest until justice is delivered and demands of the people are fulfilled.
Expressing anguish over the killing of students, the Meira Paibis and locals of Heirok Part-I Heituppokpi Mamang Leikai staged a protest at the community hall of the locality demanding capital punishment for the culprits.
The protestors denounced the Government's failure to take up timely measures which led to the loss of the precious lives of the two students.
Speaking in connection with the prolonged crisis in Manipur, one of the Meira Paibi leaders asserted that the elected leaders should resign as they have failed to protect their own people.
Hundreds of Meira Paibis took to the streets and held candle light vigil in the honour of the two students yesterday evening at different places in Thoubal district.
The Meira Paibis also formed human chains and carried out torch rallies and raised many slogans against the killing of young students.
Demand for justice of two innocent students and save Manipur slogans echoed during the protest demonstration held yesterday.
On the other hand, locals, Meira Paibis and students came out and formed human chains at Haogrampat, Moirang Khunou, Keirenphabi, Thangalawai, Moirangkhunou Sabal leikai, Chandpur, Chingmei, Keibul and Keibul Sagram and shouted slogans demanding the strongest form of punishments for the culprits involved in the murder if the two young students.
They also urged the Government to take up concrete steps to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur to alleviate the suffering of the people.
A similar protest was also staged by Thana Leikai Apuna Ima Lup Moirang at Thana Leikai.
