Members of the Joint Action Committee against the brutal killing of Khujamayum Arun, and family members, staged a silent protest in front of Lamphel Court complex today carrying placards and banners demanding capital punishment for the wife of the deceased (who is one of the prime accused) and her paramour.
The silent protest began at around 2 pm in front of Lamphel Court complex with the protesters covering and keeping their mouths closed with white cloths.
Speaking to media persons, the convener of the JAC, K Rajiv said that the democratic form of protest was staged after a rumour spread in the locality that the accused Naosekpam Rabi, Pradhan of Bamon Kampu, will be released on bail tomorrow Soon after the rumour spread, angry locals and the JAC members took the decision to stage the protest in front of Lamphel Court condemning and opposing any kind of attempts by Pradhan Rabi and his associate to be freed on bail.
He further said that it is very unfortunate that despite the State Government's assurance to arrest other remaining co accused of the case, no further arrests have been made till date even though the incident took place on April 23 .
