Imphal, March 03 2012:
Denouncing the forced closure of some Christian schools in Imphal valley by the Maoist Communist Party, the All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) has appealed to the outfit to let Christian institutions serve the people of Manipur in providing quality education.
In a statement, AMCO also clarified that it is not in the nature of and spirit of Christianity including its institutions to force or coerce anyone, especially students to become a Christian.
At the same time, AMCO asserted that Christians or any religion have the right to practice and propagate their religion in a secular society in tune with the secular and democratic system.
The organisation is pained to note that the minority Christian and its institutions have become easy target in the valley, it stated.
Stating that Christian educational institutions have contributed much to the people of Manipur by providing quality education in the State, the AMCO appealed the outfit and all peace loving and secular minded people not to disturb the institutions and to allow them to serve the people of Manipur in providing quality education, which the State needs.
