SI killing: JAC formed, body to remain unclaimed until CM addresses demands

A Joint Action Committee has been formed in connection with the fatal shooting of Sub-Inspector Md Shahjahan by a colleague at Mongbung police outpost under Jiribam district around 9:30 am today.
Notably, Md Shahjahan served as Commander of the outpost.
He was bom to Md Ibocha of Yairipok Toupokpi under Andro police station.
Expressing strong condemnation of the incident, Makakmayum Faya Safar, JAC convenor, declared that the JAC will not claim the mortal remains of the deceased until their demands are addressed by Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
Speaking to media persons during a press conference held at the residence of Late SI Shahjahan at Yairipok Toupokpi, the JAC convenor alleged that the SI was fatally shot by Bikram Akoijam with a .303 rifle after he reprimanded the police constable for reportedly neglecting his assigned duties while being deployed in the vulnerable red zone area.
He further informed that the JAC against the coldblooded killing of Md Shahjahan was formed today after holding talks with clubs, organisations, elders and meira paibis of Yairipok Tulihal Toupokpi area.
Makakmayum Faya Safar continued to add that a memorandum will be submitted to Chief Minister N Biren Singh through local MLA Th Shyamkumar and the body of the deceased will not be claimed until the JAC gets an audience with the Chief Minister to discuss their demands.
Notably, the shooter Bikram Akoijam, s/o Akoijam Dhanajoy from Naharup Pangong Makhong in Imphal East, was promptly apprehended by Jiribam police.
Meanwhile, Shahjahan was taken to Jiribam District Hospital but efforts to save him proved futile.
