Killing at Takhel Locals form JAC, raises several demands

Imphal, July 02 2015 : A JAC was formed in connection with the killing of a student, Kh Sanathoi, by one Arambam Naobi at Takhel yesterday.

The JAC against the killing of Kh Sanathoi was formed during a public meeting held last night at Takhel.

Sanathoi was killed by Naobi, who targeted everyone in his sight after his suicide attempt was foiled by locals yesterday.

Amongst others, the JAC resolved to banish Naobi and his family from the locality.

The JAC also resolved to ostracise any local who gives shelter to Naobi and his family.

They also demanded lifetime imprisonment for Naobi or death penalty.

Meanwhile, locals held a rally today from Lamlai bazar till Lamlai PS.

The rallyists raised slogans demanding handing over of Naobi to the public and death penalty for him.

The rallyists later stormed the police station.

Police were compelled to fire smoke bomb to control the mob.

Later, the JAC representatives and police officers who arrived at the station held a talk and reached an agreement.

At the same time, a sit-in protest was held today at Heirok Part-II bazar against the killing of N Rebika, who was found dead on June 6 .

The sit-in was held under the aegis of SCEASDO, Heirok Part-II .

During the sit-in, the protesters held placards reading 'arrest the culprit involved in the killing,' 'set up fast track court,' 'stop crimes against women and children,' etc.
