UNLF cadres held in Assam

Imphal, June 02 2011: A combined team of Assam police and 128 Bn CRPF has reportedly arrested a self styled captain of the proscribed UNLF from Laxminagar, which is under Dispur police station, this morning.

According to a police source, based on the revelation of SS captain Moirangthem Joy singh alias Suresh (28) s/o M Rajan Singh of Thamnapokpi in Bishnupur district, another UNLF cadre namely Ningombam boy (27) s/o N Brojen of Heirangoithong has also been rounded up from Room No.117 of NEEMCARE Hospital, Bangagarh.

N Boy (No.2170/2007 Batch) is informed to be an attendant body guard of UNLF's SS Sgt L Khamba Meitei alias Lt Wanglakpa (32) of Luwanglakpa of Nambol.

L Khamba, who is currently undergoing treatment at NEEMCARE Hospital has been placed under arrest, the source said adding that two mobile phones, three sim cards and a computer have been recovered from M Joy's possession.

Meanwhile, Bishnupur district Superintendent of Police has informed in a statement that two hardcore cadres of the KCP (MTF) City Meitei group have been arrested by a combined team of Bishnupur district police commandos and troops of 18 Sikh Regiment during the course of search operations conducted in the early hours today at Irom Meijrao Mamang Leikai and Mayang Imphal Konchak Nongmeikappam Leikai.

Identifying one of the arrested persons as Thingbaijam Shyamkanhai Singh (37) s/o Th Kunjo of Irom Meijrao Mamang Leikai, the statement listed one mobile phone handset (G-Five) with sim card (9856766175), 12 camouflage trousers and 14 camouflage shirts as the items recovered from the possession of Shyamkanhai.

The arrested person is informed to have revealed the outfit's plan to snatch weapons from security forces deployed in Imphal areas by disguising as security force personnel with the help of the camouflage uniforms seized in the operation.

The other arrested individual has been identified as Nongmeikappam Gorojao alias Opendro Singh (41) s/o N Dhananjoy Singh of Mayang Imphal Kongchak Nongmeikappam Leikai.
