Imphal, January 02 2014: Manipuri eveninger 'Kangleipakki Meira' celebrated its 32nd Foundation Day at Manipur Press Club today.

During the function, journalists and newspaper distributors were felicitated with different awards.

Best Male Journalist (Print), Best Male Journalist (Electronic), Best Female Journalist (Print) and Best Appreciated IPR Personnel awards were presented to Karnajit Meisnam of Hueiyen Lanpao, T Sunil of ISTV News, Arishrona Longjam of People's Chronicle and T Romesh respectively.

On the otherhand, Ch Bi-ren, Bungomacha and K Ong- bi Gracy Leima were feted with Kangleipaki Meira Best Hawker awards.

Social Welfare Minister AK Mirabai, IPR Parliamentary Secretary K Megha- chandra and CADA Additio-nal Chief Engineer K Mano- ranjan graced the event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.

In her speech, AK Mirabai dwelling on the significance of media in democracy, lauded the role of State media and urged media persons to avoid unethical reporting.

Saying that media points out mistakes of the Govt from time to time, she said media also provides important Govt information to the people.

K Meghachandra opined in a democratic country that it would be hard to run a Government without the media.
