UADC impressed with CM's assurance

Members of the Ukhrul Autonomous District Council (UADC) are satisfied with the assurance of Chief Minister N Biren Singh that more power will be devolved to the Manipur Autonomous District Council (MADC) and make it fully functional.
Speaking to this correspondent, UADC Chairman Dickson Kumrah expressed confidence with the assurance given by the Chief Minister and added that the slogan 'Go to Hills' is in line with the assurance of the Chief Minister.
The Chief Minister gave the assurance when a team of Ukhrul ADC led by the Chairman Dickson Kumrah called on him on January 30 and had a meeting wherein Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar, MLA Leishiyo Keishing, the Chief Secretary and the Principal Secretary (Finance) were present.
During the meeting UADC submitted a memorandum and highlighted the problems faced by the MADC in all the hill districts of Manipur although ADC was instituted for governance of the hill districts.
The CM after going through the charter of demands took note of the problems of the UADC and assured to devolve more power to the MADC to ensure speedy development of the hills through local self governance.
The process for devolving more power to the six ADCs will start, assured the Chief Minister and added that more funds will be sanctioned to run the administration more smoothly, said Dickson.
On the suggestion to convert the monthly honorarium of Councillors to salary, pension and other amenities, the Chief Minister instructed the Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary (Finance) to work out & separate policy for the MADC Members.
The CM further assured that the 14th Finance Commission awarded by the Central Government for the hill districts of Manipur will be implemented through the respective ADCs within 3-4 days.
The UADC Chairman also highlighted the law and order problem of Ukhrul district due to shortage of police personnel which stands at only 384 against the 1049 required for the district.
