Imphal, November 30 2021:
Mapithel Dam Affected Headmen, Chiefs, Elders Organization (MDAHCEO) has called a bandh in Imphal-Ukhrul-Kamjong highway on December 3 and 4 against the fulfilment of agreement signed between the organisation and the Government.
Thanmi Rimai, vice chairman, MDAHCEO, said this at a press conference held at Manipur Press Club today and added that the organisation has been compelled to call the bandh as the State Government has not fulfilled the demands put forth by the organisation including providing of economic livelihood rehabilitation packages to all the households affected by the construction of Mapithel Dam (Thoubal Multipurpose Project) .
He added that only 60% of the families affected by the project have been provided the economic livelihood rehabilitation packages so far.
As the Government had failed to meet the 19 points demands that was agreed upon in the MoA that was signed between the organisation and the Government, MDAHCEO had submitted an ultimatum to the Government on November 16 urging the Government to either fulfil the demands or dismantle the dam, he told the press.
Adding that it is most unfortunate that the part of the State Government has dishonoured the MoA signed between the Government and MDAHCEO, Thanmi Rimai warned that the organization will take up more stringent steps if the Government fails to fulfil their demands even after the bandh.
